Origin story
Africa Feature Network (AFN) was founded by Kenya’s seasoned freelance journalist, Peter Aowa, whose remarkable journey from adversity to leadership has profoundly shaped the organization’s mission. Growing up in one of Kenya’s remote villages, Peter experienced firsthand the systemic injustices that continue to affect many African communities. Motivated by these experiences and grounded in his extensive background in journalism, he established AFN as a Pan-African platform for transformative storytelling. The network is committed not only to highlighting the continent’s critical challenges but also to contribute meaningfully to the search for practical and lasting solutions.
