Africa Feature Network Appoints Luc Lapointe as Advisory Board Chairperson

Africa Feature Network (AFN) has officially appointed Luc Lapointe as the new Chairperson of its Advisory Board.

According to a press release dated Monday, May 5, 2025, the veteran policy expert and nonprofit leader will steer the organisation’s continental strategy as it scales its impact across Africa.

Luc is a Canadian national with more than 25 years of experience working at the intersection of public policy, finance reform, education, and nonprofit development. His career has been shaped by one consistent goal: helping institutions work better for people.

He is the CEO and Founder of TheBC.lab, a Canada-based organization that supports innovative finance solutions for development.

Over the years, Luc has played a leading role in several policy shifts in his home country, most notably chairing the Coalition to Reform the Banking Law of Canada, which contributed to the creation of the Canadian Financial Products Consumer Protection Agency.

Beyond policy work, he has collaborated closely with nonprofit organizations around the world.

His work spans a wide range—from helping set up social impact bonds in Colombia to advising Impact 2030, a global initiative that connects business efforts to the Sustainable Development Goals. He has also supported universities and civic groups working in sustainable finance and impact investing.

In a statement to the press, Africa Feature Network Founder and President Peter Aowa congratulated Mr. Lapointe on his appointment to lead the advisory board, calling it one of the organisation’s most strategic decisions.

“Luc brings a rare combination of experience in public systems and a deep understanding of how nonprofits can create long-term change. He knows how to turn good ideas into real-world solutions, and we’re excited to have him guide our next chapter,” said Aowa.

Luc’s background also includes a significant role in education. He served as Director General of the Commission scolaire des Patriotes in Quebec, overseeing schools and educational programming for thousands of students. His early career began in the classroom, teaching chemistry and physical science.

At AFN, Luc will lead the Advisory Board in shaping high-level strategy, supporting partnerships, and helping the organization grow its presence and credibility across Africa.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Diploma in Leadership from the University of Ottawa. He is also a seasoned political campaign strategist and a recipient of several awards in innovative finance and public service.

His appointment signals AFN’s commitment to building strong governance structures and ensuring the organization remains people-focused, independent, and solutions-driven.
